New rigs fast track Kuala Lumpur project

Delivery of new Liebherr piling rigs is helping geotechnical contractor Aneka Jeringan to deliver foundations for a new development in Kuala Lumpur.

Aneka is using the LB 44-510 and LB36 – the largest and second largest rigs in the Liebherr range – to undertake the foundations work for the Sentral Suites project.

According to Aneka director Loke Kien Tuck, the new rigs are helping to overcome working hour restrictions at the site by speeding up work in drilling the 35m long piles through dense silty sands. “We can complete the boring and casing installation using polymer support in one day and pour the concrete the following morning,” he said.

Aneka is also constructing 600m of diaphragm walls for the project which will include three towers, the tallest of which will be 45 storeys.

In total 366 piles will be installed at the site and foundations work is expected to be completed next year.
