Oslo metro design contract awarded

A joint venture of Cowi and Multiconsult has been appointed to undertake design work for the extension on the Fornebu Line on the Oslo metro.

The 8.5km extension will link the Fornebu perninsula to the Norwegian capital and has been described as Oslo’s largest transport project in 20 years.

“We are proud to be designing this exciting and hugely important project,” said Cowi CEO Lars-Peter Søbye. “As well as the classic tunnel engineering competencies, we will also be consulting on issues related to water and the environment.”

The new metro will run underground from Oslo’s transport hub Majorstuen westwards to Fornebu, which was formerly the site of Oslo’s international airport but has since been redeveloped as a residential and business district.

Construction of the new line is due to start in 2021 and is scheduled for completion in 2025.
