Plaxis update adds to geotech capabilities


Plaxis has announced a major upgrade to its Plaxis 3D software that are aimed at expanding its geotechnical capabilities.

Improvements have been made to non-linear geogrids (with creep), elastoplasticity for beam and plates, improve sequence definition for NATM tunnels, cross and parallel permeability for interface, dynamic loading for rigid bodies and a Hoek-Brown parameter guide.

Other major developments include the ability to export CAD geometry via the user interface to enable data to be brought into BIM workflows and allow 3D printing.

The latest software also allows users to apply dynamic loading to rigid bodies allowing them to model for example cyclic loads due to wind or wave loading on wind turbine foundations (pictured), or any other types of foundation which may be modelled as a rigid body.
