Highland Council has said that preparations for the start of work on the rock face to the west of the avalanche shelter on the A890 Stromeferry Bypass are well underway.

The 12 week programme of work is set to start on 3 September and plans regarding road closures have now been published.

The first few weeks of work will see a diversion route on the adjacent railway built to allow light vehicles to avoid a 224km diversion applied to heavier vehicles during the work during the day.

The diversion will be closed between 10pm and 7am each day and subject to up to five closures during the day to allow trains to pass.

A Council spokesman said: “We have worked closely with Network Rail to keep disruption to road users to a minimum when the road/rail diversion is in place but inevitably there will be times when road users will face longer waits so we urge people to plan their travel carefully and avoid the periods when the diversion is not going to be available.”
