Sacyr awarded Brazil metro contract

Sacyr Engineering and the Brazilian construction company Ferrera Guedes have been awarded the contract to build the Eastern Line of the Fortaleza Metro in Brazil.

The £309M project, which has been awarded by the State of Ceará’s Secretary for Infrastructure, comprises of Phase 1 of the Eastern Line between Tirol-Moura Brasil station to the train depot, located beyond Papicú station.

The project includes 7.3km of tunnelling and four underground stations (Central Chico da Silva, Colegio Militar, Nunes Valente and Papicú) and one ground-level station at Tirol-Moura Brasil.

Construction is expected to take 48 months.

In addition, strengthening work in tunnels will be carried where further stations will be built in later phases.
