Scout Moor wind farm expansion approved

Planning permission has been granted for Peel Energy and United Utilities’ expansion of Scout Moor onshore wind farm in the South Pennines.

The proposed scheme involves the addition of 16 wind turbines located on land to the north and between the existing 26 turbines and access tracks of the wind farm.

Rossendale Council’s development control committee has approved the planning application for 14 of the wind turbines to be built.

Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council will decide on the further two turbines that sit within its boundary.

Rossendale Council’s approval will now be referred to central government to decide whether or not to “call in” the decision for further scrutiny.

Scout Moor wind farm has been in operation since 2008 and has the capacity to generate 65MW of energy.
