Singapore awards contract for rail tunnel construction

singpore train

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the civil contract for the construction of tunnels on the 1.6km north east line extension of the city’s rail system.

The S$79 million (£43.3M) contract was awarded to China State Construction Engineering Corporation (Singapore Branch).

Work will involve the construction of two 830m tunnels running between Punggol and the new Punggol Coast station. The new station will form part of a new business park in Punggol Digital District, which will include Singapore’s pilot enterprise district and the Singapore Institute of Technology’s new campus.

The new line extension will cut down travelling time Punggol North to the city centre by up to 15 minutes.
