Singapore’s Land Transport Authority has announced the award of SG$3.14bn (£1.8bn) worth of tunnelling contracts on the region’s first integrated transport corridor.
The 21.5km long North South Corridor (NSC) will connect East Coast Parkway in the south with Admiralty Road West in the north with express bus routes and at-grade cycling trunk routes.
The tunnelling work has been split into six separate deals and cover sections between East Coast Parkway and Victoria Street; Victoria Street to Kampong Java Road; Marymout Lane to Pemimpin Place; Pemimpin Place and Sin Ming Avenue; Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9; and Mo Kio Avenue 9 and Sungei Seletar.
The section between East Coast Parkway and Victoria Street will be built by GS Engineering and Construction Corporation. The work, valued at SG$635,8M (£368.6M), involves design and construction of a 1km section of tunnel and 1km section of viaduct, three entry ramps and four exit ramps.
The construction of a section of the NSC tunnel between Victoria Street and Kampong Java Road has been awarded to a joint venture of Ssangyong Engineering and Construction Co and Wai Fong Construction. The SG$482.5M (£279.7M) deal involves design and construction of a 1.55km section of the tunnel with two entry ramps and two exit ramps. Ssangyong Engineering and Construction Co has also secured a second contract on the project and will construct the 1.3km tunnel, 1.1km viaduct and an at-grade road section of the NSC route between Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9 and Sungei Seletar under a SG$537.1M (£311.2M) package of work.
The construction of a section of the NSC tunnel between Marymount Lane and Pemimpin Place has been awarded to China Railway First Group Co Singapore Branch at a contract sum of SG$446M (£258.5M). The section involves design and construction a 1.1km section of the tunnel with one entry ramp.
The construction of the 700m section of NSC tunnel between Pemimpin Place and Sin Ming Avenue has been awarded to a joint venture of Hwa Seng Builder Pte, Chye Joo Construction and Ho Lee Construction Pte at a contract sum of SG$242.9M (£140.7M).
The 1.95km section NSC tunnel between Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9 will be built by Lum Chang Building Contractors under a deal worth SG$799M (£463M).
Singapore’s Land Transport Authority has said that it expects work on all six contracts to be started by the end of the year and the overall project is slated for completion in 2026.
