Work on an Exmouth beach to resolve a sinkhole that has appeared several times over the last two months will begin today.
The sinkhole, measuring approximately 2m, appears to open up after heavy rain. On previous occasions, the hole has remained for a few days before sand and other beach materials washed up with the tide have refilled it.
Following a tip off from a member of the public, East Devon District Council engineers discovered a South West Water pipe deep below the sand which may be blocked.
The engineers will work with South West Water’s contractors to try to access the pipe and resolve the problem.
