Socotec has announced that it has been appointed by Dragados UK to undertake a range of services for the Aberdeen Harbour Expansion Project (AHEP).
Under the agreement, Socotec will deliver materials testing, marine analysis and ground investigation work for the development of new facilities at Nigg Bay to the south of the existing harbour.
The work includes compaction and compliance testing for bulk earthworks, concrete, soils and aggregates. A mobile laboratory will be set-up on site to offer rapid results for the project, with further support offered at Socotec’s materials testing laboratory in Marywell, Scotland.
For the marine monitoring elements, Socotec will be undertaking a comprehensive suite of testing and analysis. All results are reported to the regulatory body, Marine Scotland, ensuring that AHEP will be adhering with the stringent environmental regulations through monitoring and minimising any pollution impact.
In addition to the above works, Socotec is also undertaking a second phase of ground investigation works and follows on from 36 boreholes completed in 2017. The company will be undertaking cable percussion boring followed on by rotary open hole drilling and rotary coring.
