Thai Bauer has said that it expects to complete ground engineering work on Bangkok’s Orange Line metro project in spring this year.
The contractor started work on the scheme for joint venture contractor Ch Karnchang- Sino Thai in March last year having previously worked on city’s Blue, Purple and Green Line metro schemes.
The current work involves installation of more than 370 bored piles with diameters from 800mm to 2m to depths of between 40m and 65m, as well as constructing approximately 58,600m² of diaphragm wall with a width of 800mm to 1,000mm to a depth of 27 m.
“The challenges of this project are diverse,” said Thai Bauer managing director Mike Sinkinson. “First of all, extremely stringent tolerances for the installation of the bored piles have to be kept, while work is required to be carried out above existing tunnels, so great care and accuracy are essential for the success of this project.”
The new metro line is scheduled to go into operation in 2022.
