Strabag has won another €800M (£706M) tranche of work on the Alto Maipo hydropower project in Chile.
The company has been working on the project since 2012 and the latest contract for the river intake system takes the value of Strabag’s work up to €1.5bn (£1.32bn).
The new work comes after client AES Gener concluded the original construction agreement in February when another contractor withdrew from the project following difficult technical conditions.
Strabag has said that the new total contract price is a lump sum that covers both the work that has already been rendered as well as all future work to be provided by the company.
In total, Strabag will construct 73km of tunnels for the 530MW hydropower plant.
