The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications has announced the formation of a task force to examine how to proceed with a planned railway tunnel between Helsinki and Tallinn below the Gulf of Finland.
A report on the Fin Est Link was published in February and the task force will examine issues such as financing, economic impact of the scheme and technological issues relating to the construction.
“A railway tunnel between Tallinn and Helsinki would be a significant step in improving connections between Finland and Europe. It is now important to continue the good research work together with the key stakeholders,” said Finland minister of transport and communications Anne Berner.
The task force has representatives from the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, and cities of Helsinki and Tallinn.
The task force is expected to deliver its report in May this year.
