Tunnelling completed on Riyadh Metro line

The tunnelling phase of one of the new lines for the £6.25bn Riyadh Metro in Saudi Arabia has been completed.

It is for the Green Line, one of three lines being constructed by the FAST Consortium, a joint venture with Atkins on the design side and Spanish consultancy Typsa. In total six lines are being constructed by three different consortia.

In addition, Alstom is now starting the track works for the Yellow Line. They will be first tracks to be installed throughout the Riyadh Metro project. It has also released a mock-up the Riyadh Metropolis train that it is manufacturing.

The FAST Consortium was commissioned 2013 to build the Yellow, Green, and Purple lines, which includes 33km of viaducts, 22km of underground and 9km of street level track.

There are seven tunnel boring machines working in on the project and two have now completed excavation works.
