Tunnelling expertise secures further Swedish work for Implenia

Implenia has said that its knowledge of tunneling in Sweden was a key factor in securing another contract with Swedish transport authority Trafikverket.

The latest SEK200M (£17M) deal will see the firm undertake design work for a double track expansion of the rail line between Varberg and Hamra, which include construction of a tunnel and safety shaft.

Upgrade of the route on the line between Gothenburg and Lund is seen as a key project to improve rail links along Sweden’s west coast and provide connections to the Öresund Bridge to improve links to Denmark and the rest of Europe.

The scheme also includes design of a new rail bridge and station at Varberg.

The contract for construction, which is expected to be work SEK3.5bn (£299M) and is expected to be awarded in 2019.
