Tunnelling to start on A76 water project

a76 tbm

Scottish Water has said that the Caledonia Water Alliance is set to start tunnelling work below the A76 at Kilmarnock to install a new water main.

The alliance will use a tunnel boring machine to install the 80m long, 1500mm diameter concrete lined tunnel, which will house a 900mm diameter welded steel water pipe.

The tunnel will pass 8.5m below the road to the east of the Bellfield interchange near Hurlford without road closures.

Scottish Water has said that the tunnelling work is part of a £120M investment in the drinking water network in Ayrshire and East Renfrewshire.
