Energy supplier Eon has appointed Van Oord to undertake installation for the foundations for its new Arkona offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.
Under the deal, Van Oord will install the 60 monopiles and transition piece foundations for the 385MW development, which is located 35km to the north of Rügen Island in Germany.
Van Oord has said that it will deploy its heavy lift installation vessel Svanen to undertake the work which will take place next year.
“The installation strategy is based on the proven feeder concept of floating the foundation components out to the Svanen at the installation site,” said Van Oord Offshore Wind managing director Arnoud Kuis. “This method has been optimized over recent years resulting in highly efficient installation cycles.”
