Vinci achieves breakthrough on Rennes metro tunnel

Vinci Construction has announced it has completed an 8.5km tunnel for Line B, which is the second line of the automatic metro in Rennes, France.

Vinci worked with Dodin Campenon Bernard, GTM Ouest and Botte Fondations, as well as Spie Batignolles TPCI, Spie Foundations and Legendre Civil Engineering to complete the tunnel drive.

The new metro route, being developed for Rennes Métropole and Semtcar, will serve 15 stations by 2020 and connect the south west and north east of Rennes.

The 9m diameter tunnel boring machine – named Elaine – was launched 38 months ago and connects nine of the stations on the new route.
