Vinci divisions secure safety tunnel work in Paris

Vinci Construction businesses Bessac, Chantiers Modernes Construction and Soletanche Bachy have been appointed by French rail network operator SNCF Réseau to construct a new safety tunnel in Paris.

The work on RER expressway Line C in Paris involves tunnel portal work, connecting two existing tunnels and construction of a new section of tunnel.

The new 1,700m long, 3.5m diameter tunnel will be constructed using an earth pressure balance tunnel boring machine manufactured by Bessac for the work, while the tunnel connection will be made using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method. Soil nailing, shotcrete, piling and grouting techniques will be used for the tunnel portal.

This contract follows on from a previous one carried out by Soletanche Bachy France and Soletanche Bachy Tunnels to build the approaches to the branches from the rail tunnel.

Work on this latest contract is scheduled to start in February and is expected to take two years to complete.
