Volker wins major land reclamation role

Volker Stevin is set to work on reclamation of 3.2ha of sea bed as part of a larger contract won by Volker Fitzpatrick and Volker Wessels to expand the Port of Felixstowe.

The work for Hutchinson Ports is expected to take 15 months and will create 13ha of new container yard directly behind berth 9.

This work follows on from Volker’s past delivery of the rail terminal and other berth expansion schemes for Hutchinson.

“Berths 8 and 9 were the first in the UK built to accommodate the latest class of ultra-large container vessels,” said Hutchinson Ports executive director Clemence Cheng. “The creation of additional container storage will allow us to optimise container handling operations between the berth and its supporting yard and further enhance the service we offer to our customers.”
