Welsh valley debris flow slope failure traps driver

Neath Port Talbot Council has said that it is assessing the stability of a slope above Cymmer Road near Glyncorrwg in the Afan Valley after a debris flow yesterday trapped a car that was driving along the route.

Residents have said the slope used to be covered by trees

The council has said that the failure was triggered by heavy rainfall and result in 80t of material reaching the road

The driver of the car trapped by the debis is reported to be unhurt.

Local residents have said that the slope was covered in trees until recently and expressed shock at the scale of the slope failure.
