Consultant WSP has announced that it has acquired Opus International Consultants in a bid to strengthen its position in the Australian and New Zealand markets.
The deal values Opus at £155M and will create a business with 42,000 employees operating across 47 countries.
The acquisition will also bolster WSP’s geotechnical business in the UK. According to the 2017 Geotechnical Services File (GSF), WSP’s geotechnical turnover for the last complete financial year was £18M, making it the 8th largest geotechnical consultant in the UK. Opus reported a geotechnical turnover of £3M, ranking it inside the top 20 on the 2017 GSF.
“This combination of two like-minded firms will make us stronger and increase our ability to deliver superior value to our clients, shareholders and our collective employees,” said WSP president and CEO Alexandre L’Heureux. “We will now focus on expanding and diversifying our portfolio of expertise, by leveraging Opus’ expertise in the infrastructure (transportation and water) and building sectors as well as in asset management.”
