Piling starts at Beacon Barracks redevelopment

Aarsleff, the UK subsidiary of Danish civil engineering contractor Per Aarsleff, has begun driving precast concrete piles for the Ministry of Defence’s £100M Beacon Barracks redevelopment in Staffordshire.

Lend Lease Construction won the £100M contract for the redevelopment of the barracks by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) late last year and awarded the foundation works to Aarsleff.

Aarsleff will install approximately 1,000 piles for three of the 25 new structures, and work is expected to last seven weeks, with two of the company’s Junttan PM20 rigs having arrived on site in mid-May.

Lend Lease’s consultant URS has been working with Aarsleff to ensure the pile design and layout conform to Eurocode EC7.
