Piling starts on Nova development in Victoria

Ground engineering work to construct a two level basement at the Nova site near Victoria in London for client Land Securities has got underway.

Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering (BBGE) and Cementation Skanska are working in joint venture to construct a 445m secant piled wall, 336 large diameter rotary bearing piles and a further 251 bearing piles with plunge columns at the site.

Work on the foundations is expected to take until the end of November when main contractor Mace will start work on taking the 18,000m2 mixed office, shopping, residential and public space project out of the ground.

“The close proximity of the secant wall to the adjacent Victoria Station Upgrade works and the future Crossrail 2 tunnel has introduced some unique challenges for our design and construction teams on this project,” said BBGE project director Jane Trowse.
