Sonic logging underway at Paddington for Crossrail

Construction of the diaphragm walls for Crossrail’s Paddington Station box has now advanced sufficiently for verticality testing to be carried out.

Testconsult is currently carrying out sonic logging of diaphragm walls and piles constructed by Cementation Skanska at the site to prove that the work meets the project specification.

Testconsult’s SCXT sonic logging equipment has already been used at other Crossrail sites including Pudding Mill Lane and the Limmo Peninsula and was selected for the Paddington work due to speed and accuracy of the results. According to Testconsult, the system allow a four tube pile profile to be completed in around 15 minutes and the results are not influenced by soil damping, so analysis of the foundation base is also possible.
