Technical paper: An introduction to engineering geology

J L Knill, PhD, MICE, FGS. This paper was first published in GE’s March 1975 edition.

Engineering geology is concerned with the application of geology in civil and mining engineering practice. Therefore, in contrast to the other branches of applied geology, which are primarily associated with the extractive mineral industries, engineering geology requires a knowledge of material behaviour in relation to rock, soil and water.
