Technical paper: Ground Engineering and safety of dams - part 2

This paper was first publsihed in GE’s March 1968 issue

Part 1 and 3 of this paper were published in GE’s January and May 1968 issues, respectively

B P Bellport, chief engineer of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, gave a detailed account of the serious embankment leakage and sloughing which threatened Fontenelle earth dam. There was a certain similarity with the occurrences at Malpasset, Vaiont and Baldwin Hills in that the structures were designed by persons considered competent, if not eminent, in this field using practices that had been accepte by the profession.
