Technical paper: Rock tunnelling machines Part 2

W M Braun. This paper was first published in GE’s November 1969 edition.

The often noted American flair for large scale machines and projects is shared by leading firms on the Continent. Krupp’s interest in tunnelling has already been mentioned briefly, and this firm is certainly preparing males for the Channel Tunnel Competition, although this most exciting event of the century may be as far off as ever before. Philipp Holzmann has so far concentrated on soft ground tunnelling machines in Germany, and achieved remarkable success in Hamburg.
