Technical paper: Strength, stability and similitude

By B K Menzies, University of Surrey

This paper was first published in GE’s July 1976 issue

This article summarises the general approach adopted at the University of Surrey for teaching undergraduates the basic concepts currently used in the study, interpretation and application of shear strength data. It will therefore be of value to students of civil engineering and may also be of interest to engineers and geologists who wish to re-examine some established principles.
