Technical paper: Titan piles supporting Swedish motorway bridge

Sture Eresund, Sture Eresund AB, Bunkeflostrand, Sweden. This paper was first published in GE’s October 1997 edition.

Titan piles consist of a continuously threaded, hollow steel pipe as the load carrying members and a grout body of cement which allows compressive and tensile forces to be transferred to the surrounding soil. The piles are installed using standard, rotary percussive drill rigs. This paper describes the use of Titan piles as an effective foundation solution for a motorway bridge constructed at Varby in Sweden.
